Catalina Realty has long legacy of real estate services on Point Loma Peninsula

Business Spotlight:
Catalina Realty offers real estate brokerage and property management services throughout the Point Loma Peninsula. To learn more about the business, the Point Loma-OB Monthly posed the following questions to owner and broker Robert Jackson:
Q. When did your business start? Who founded it? What is its mission?
A. Catalina Realty was founded by Hal LaFleur back in 1950. The original purpose of Catalina Realty was to sell off a subdivision located in the Wooded Area that LaFleur owned. Catalina Realty has remained at the same location ever since, the southern end of Jensen’s shopping center. I assumed the company in 2017 from Paul Vadnais, who owned it since 1970 and inherited it from his father.
Q. What services do you offer?
A. We offer brokerage services along with property management. [We specialize] in trust/estate sales throughout the county, along with managing residential and commercial properties.
Q. What makes you and/or your company unique compared with similar businesses?
A. We are one of the few “mom and pop” companies left on the peninsula. After being with larger corporate real estate firms for 22 years, it’s nice to provide the best service to your clients without having a “sideshow” pushing an agenda that doesn’t benefit anyone but them. You know with this office you are getting the highest level of service, with the client always coming first. There isn’t any “spin” with the process, with complete transparency.
Q. What’s special about your community and professional involvement?
A. I’m a second-generation member of the PL-OB communities. My mom was also in the real estate business but focused the majority of her time on giving to the community. She was the first female president of the Point Loma Association and Peninsula Community Planning Board and fought tirelessly to save Dana Middle School from private development.
Starting in my early 20s, I followed in her footsteps, continuing the service she once dedicated herself to. I have served as past president of the PLA, director of the PCPB and a Cabrillo National Monument Foundation trustee.
Q. What are the advantages of working in Point Loma and Ocean Beach?
A. Working in PL-OB, you have a very interesting contrast that is unique in itself. If you can find a home with bay/city views, along with the ocean and coastline views, you have the best of both worlds here on the peninsula.
