Walkers step up for mental health at Liberty Station’s NTC Park

Share

Improving mental well-being was the order of the day April 29 for people who turned out to walk, create art or even do tai-chi during the 19th annual San Diego NAMIWalks and Mental Wellness Expo in NTC Park at Liberty Station in Point Loma.

The event, organized by the National Alliance on Mental Illness in partnership with San Diego County’s Health & Human Services Agency, helped kick off Mental Health Matters Month in May.

The day featured a walk around the park’s Preble Field and an expo that included more than 70 exhibitors offering mental wellness resources for families, children, military members and veterans. There also were activity booths intended to help improve mental health, such as gardening, journaling, mood screening, a make-your-own button station and demonstrations of tai-chi, a mind-body exercise involving a series of slow, gentle movements and physical postures.
