Bank Robber suspect apprehended

A white male entered the US Bank at 1331 Rosecrans St., 9:40 a.m. on Oct. 4 and approached a teller. The suspect displayed a demand note and the teller complied, giving the suspect an undisclosed amount of money. The suspect took the money and fled the bank.

He was described as clean shaven, in his early 30s, with short brown hair, wearing a black shirt and khaki shorts. Officers responded and found a male, matching the suspect description. Witnesses were located and they positively identified the suspect. A search of the suspect revealed a large amount of money and a demand note in his pocket. He was arrested for bank robbery and booked into jail.

Man feisty during Sunset Cliffs rescue

A man who fell from Sunset Cliffs on the evening of Sunday, Oct. 6 was reportedly uncooperative while lifeguards worked to rescue him. The man, suspected of being under the influence, fell around 7:30 p.m. near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard and Monaco Street. Lifeguards located the man with help from a police helicopter, but had to summon extra lifeguards when the man refused to cooperate with them.

Crews used a crane to hoist him to safety. The man was taken to a hospital with possible major injuries. He wouldn’t tell paramedics how far he had fallen, so they took him to a trauma facility as a precaution, officials said.

Attempted bank robbery foiled

A male suspect approached a teller about 4:28 p.m. on Sept. 24 at the Wells Fargo bank, 3900 West Point Loma Blvd. and produced a demand note. The teller noticed the suspect was nervous and signaled the manager, who notified police. The teller refused to give the suspect anything.

The suspect turned and left. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 5’2” to 5’5” tall, 140-150 pounds, wearing dark clothing. He is not in custody at this time. Robbery Detectives are investigating. Anyone with information may call Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.

Drifter arrested for punching officer

A 37-year-old homeless man was arrested on suspicion of battery on a police officer and resisting arrest late Tuesday, Oct. 1. Officers responded to Holy Trinity Anglican Parish church on the corner of Cape May Avenue and Sunset Cliffs Boulevard around 11:50 p.m., after someone reported a man was sleeping in front of the main doors of the building.

While officers were speaking with the man, he became uncooperative and they decided to handcuff him while conducting their investigation. While being handcuffed, the suspect punched the officer in the nose, causing it to bleed. The man was arrested and booked into jail. Medics treated the officer at the scene.
