Ocean Beach Woman’s Club hosted its first Ping Pong Tournament on Friday, Sept. 27 at the clubhouse, 2160 Bacon St. Club member Susan Winkie called the tournament “a smashing success,” adding she fully expects it to reoccur “year after year.”

The evening began with an a capella performance of “Star Spangled Banner” by Lacy Younger, before three hours of highly competitive Ping Pong play. Patrick Gallagher (playing under the name “Vanilla Slice”) won first place, taking home the Golden Paddle. Lionel Silva (playing as “L-Train”) won second place.

Food was provided by Dirty Birds and Surf Rider Pizza, with beer and wine from Mike Hess Brewing and Jensen’s Foods. The event doubled as a fundraiser for OB Woman’s Club, which has been giving back to the community since 1924.
