Optimist tiki time raises funds for youth programs

Share

THE SCENE:

The Point Loma Optimist Club extends an island-sized mahalo! to the 280 guests who came to support Peninsula youth programs at the annual Golden Optimistiki fundraiser April 26 at the Bali Hai Restaurant on Shelter Island. The picture-perfect Hawaiian-themed event saw guests dressed in colorful floral shirts, muumuus and pa’u skirts sipping the restaurant’s world-famous Mai Tais, as they browsed a market of tropical clothing, accessories and silent auction items before sitting down to a luau feast. Event chair Glenn Mouritzen said entertainment was provided by James Intveld, Hukilau Hotshots, Whig Out!, Kitten on the Keys and the Bali Hai Floor Show. Optimist Club meetings are 7 a.m. Tuesdays at the San Diego Yacht Club. Those interested may e-mail Jim Dennison at jbdennison@cox.net for membership details.
