Man fatally shot in Ocean Beach

A man was shot to death early Sept. 15 in Ocean Beach, police said.

San Diego police received calls shortly after 1 a.m. reporting that a man had been shot on the beach in the 1900 block of Abbott Street near lifeguard Tower 2, according to a news release.

The unidentified victim, believed to be in his 50s or 60s, was shot at least once in the upper body, police said. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said witnesses believe he was homeless and frequented the Ocean Beach area.

The circumstances leading to the shooting are under investigation. No description of the shooter was immediately available, police said.
