18-year-old shooting victim who died after crash in Midway area had been robbed, police say

An 18-year-old man who died after being found in a vehicle that struck a wall in the Midway area had been shot during a robbery, police said.
The man was identified as Eduardo Salguero of San Diego, according to the San Diego Police Department.
Officers were dispatched at about 6:15 p.m. Nov. 25 in response to several 911 calls regarding possible shots fired and a vehicle crash, police Lt. Matt Dobbs said. The situation unfolded behind Point Loma Plaza, a shopping center between Midway Drive and Kenyon Street.
When officers and paramedics arrived, they found that an Acura had hit a retaining wall along the access road behind the businesses, Dobbs said. “They located a male behind the wheel who was unresponsive. When they removed him from the vehicle, they discovered he had sustained at least one apparent gunshot wound.”
Paramedics rushed Salguero to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Dobbs said.
Detectives learned Salguero had arranged to buy an item through Snapchat, Dobbs said. Salguero drove to meet the sellers and when he arrived, two men entered his vehicle and one shot him before the crash, police said.
The suspects were described as Hispanic between 20 and 30 years old wearing dark clothes, Dobbs said. The men are believed to have suffered significant head, leg and arm injuries when Salguero drove into the wall.
Police encouraged anyone with information about the case to call the homicide unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
