An 18-year-old San Diego man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and robbery in the Nov. 25 slaying of another 18-year-old man who was found shot in a car after a crash in the Midway area, San Diego police said.

Angel Garcia was arrested Dec. 2 and booked into San Diego County Jail, according to a Police Department statement Dec. 4. According to jail records, he is being held without bail, with arraignment scheduled for Jan. 8.

The victim was previously identified as Eduardo Salguero of San Diego.

Officers were dispatched at about 6:15 p.m. Nov. 25 in response to several 911 calls regarding possible shots fired and a vehicle crash, police said. The situation unfolded behind Point Loma Plaza, a shopping center between Midway Drive and Kenyon Street.

When officers and paramedics arrived, they found that an Acura had hit a retaining wall along the access road behind the businesses, police said.

“They located a male behind the wheel who was unresponsive. When they removed him from the vehicle, they discovered he had sustained at least one apparent gunshot wound,” Lt. Matt Dobbs said.

Paramedics rushed Salguero to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, Dobbs said.

Detectives learned Salguero had arranged to buy an item through Snapchat, Dobbs said. Salguero drove to meet the sellers and when he arrived, two men entered his vehicle and one shot him before the crash, police said.

Police encouraged anyone with information about the case to call the homicide unit at (619) 531-2293 or Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
