Suspect arrested after man with replica gun tries to carjack Amazon truck in Midway District

A suspect was arrested after a man armed with a replica gun tried to carjack an Amazon truck in the Midway District the night of Jan. 23, San Diego police said.
The truck was stopped at a red light just before 6:25 p.m. at Sports Arena Boulevard and Hancock Street when the man walked up to the passenger side, pointed a gun at the driver and tried to open the door, police Officer Robert Heims said.
The driver drove away and then walked into the Heritage Inn on Channel Way and called police to report that a man was walking around with a gun, Heims said.
Police set up a perimeter and arrested a suspect, Miguel Gonzalez, 46, Heims said.
“A gun was found, and upon further investigation, it was not real,” the officer said.
Gonzalez was booked into San Diego County Jail on suspicion of carjacking, with bail set at $75,000, according to jail records. Arraignment was set for Feb. 19.
