A weekend investigation revealed that a San Diego man found dead late May 21 under suspicious circumstances in an Ocean Beach alley died as a result of a traffic incident, police said.

Details about the crash that fatally injured Frank Thomas Neal, 60, were not immediately provided.

Someone found Neal injured just before 11:30 p.m. in the north alley off Niagara Avenue and Sunset Cliffs Boulevard, according to a news release from San Diego police homicide Lt. Andra Brown and traffic Sgt. Victoria Houseman.

A man believed to be in his early 60s was found with injuries late May 21.

When officers arrived, Neal was unresponsive and a citizen was doing CPR. Paramedics took over and Neal was pronounced dead minutes later.

Neal had unspecified injuries on his body, and due to the suspicious nature of his death, homicide investigators were called, police said.

“During the course of the investigation, detectives learned [Neal] died as a result of a traffic collision,” Brown and Houseman said in their news release.

Traffic investigators have taken over the investigation.

Houseman did not immediately respond to questions about the nature of the incident that led to Neal’s death. Brown referred all questions to the traffic sergeant.

Anyone with information about Neal’s death is asked to call the traffic investigations unit at (858) 495-7800 or San Diego County Crime Stoppers’ anonymous tip line at (888) 580-8477.
