Point Loma-based Rock Church joined 10 other area churches in presenting the “Do Something Church Race” on July 31, in which students in sixth through 12th grades competed in physical, mental and service challenges throughout Liberty Station.

Teams stopped at 20 different stations during the 6½-hour event to complete challenges such as eating spicy food, walking across Legos and navigating an obstacle course.

Participants also completed challenges to benefit community organizations, including assembling art kits on behalf of the New Children’s Museum to be distributed to social organizations around San Diego; beautifying Liberty Station’s NTC Park in partnership with the Point Loma Association’s Mean Green Team; and providing youths who are aging out of the foster system with a “welcome basket” for their first home in partnership with Just in Time and the Rock Foster Youth Mentor Ministry.

Teams competed for a $1,000 prize to give to the San Diego-area nonprofit of their choice. The winning team chose the Olivia Hudson Foundation, which works to fund pediatric brain cancer research and support families in financial need.
