The Ocean Beach Holiday Parade made a popular return to Newport Avenue for its 42nd renewal Dec. 4 after last year’s drive-through event in the Dog Beach parking lot, prompted by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The theme of this year’s parade was “Rockin’ Around the Crooked Tree,” in honor of Ocean Beach’s traditional holiday tree, which is in its customary spot at the beach at the end of Newport Avenue.

The trees, typically donated annually, get their nickname because they often lean to one side.

Liberty Station hosted its annual holiday tree lighting for a large gathering in the Arts District’s North Promenade on Nov. 26.
