Two people were pulled from the ocean off Sunset Cliffs the night of March 2, authorities said.

Someone called 911 at about 9 p.m. to report hearing screams for help coming from people about 300 yards off the coast, San Diego police said.

A San Diego Fire-Rescue Department dispatcher said lifeguards plucked both people from the water and they were taken to hospitals.

No further information was immediately available, including how the pair ended up in the water so far from shore.
