Two killed, three injured in Midway District crash

Two people were killed and three others were injured in the Midway District when a pickup hit a median, went airborne and landed on a minivan the night of May 7, San Diego police said.
The crash was reported shortly after 9 p.m. at the intersection of Rosecrans Street and Sports Arena Boulevard, police said.
The minivan — a 2015 Toyota Sienna — was headed north on Rosecrans while a 1999 Toyota Tacoma was traveling west on Sports Arena at high speed, police said. The pickup hit the center median, flew into the air and landed on top of the minivan.
A male and a female occupant in the minivan died at the scene. Two others in the vehicle suffered unspecified injuries and were taken to a hospital.
The pickup driver, a 31-year-old man, was taken to a hospital for treatment of injuries that included broken bones, police said.
Roads in the area were closed for hours. No further information was immediately available.
