OB’s Dog Beach closed to water contact due to sewage spill in San Diego River, county says
The water at Dog Beach in Ocean Beach was closed to the public Sept. 1 until further notice because of a sewage spill upstream in the San Diego River, according to the San Diego County Department of Environmental Health and Quality.
The department said in an announcement of the action that the spill is “impacting ocean waters and may cause illness” because bacteria levels exceed state health standards.
The water will remain closed from the river outlet to 300 feet south until sampling and field observations confirm the area is safe, the department said.
DEHQ had issued a precautionary advisory for Dog Beach on Aug. 30 due to the sewage spill.
