Ten Mexican nationals were detained by U.S. Border Patrol agents after a boat suspected of being used to smuggle undocumented immigrants was found in Sunset Cliffs, officials said.

The boat was seen around 10 p.m. April 16 as it was traveling north toward Sunset Cliffs, according to Supervisory Border Patrol Agent Diana Ibarra.

The boat went to shore near Garbage Beach, near Ladera Street and Cornish Drive. When agents arrived, they found seven men and three women “as they ran from the beached vessel,” Ibarra said.

The passengers were taken to the Imperial Beach Border Patrol station to be processed. The boat was seized, Ibarra said.

No other information was released.
