An 11-year-old boy playing with toy swords with a friend suffered serious injuries when he stepped into the street and was struck by a car in Point Loma, according to San Diego police.

The boy was playing a toy sword fight game with a friend at about 7 p.m. May 13 when he stepped onto Catalina Boulevard from a dirt path between Dudley and Charles streets near Point Loma Nazarene University.

A car traveling south struck the boy, who suffered a fractured pelvis, leg fractures, a hematoma on the left side of his head and many abrasions. He was taken to a hospital. Police had no further information about his condition.

Investigators said drugs or alcohol were not a factor in the case. Anyone with information can call San Diego County Crime Stoppers at (888) 580-8477.
